SOPHISTICATED viruses not only put your money at risk but also your Wi-Fi connection.

If you’ve noticed your internet connection has really slowed down lately and don’t know why, a virus could be behind it.

Viruses can have an impact on your Wi-Fi

That’s because viruses can be quite draining on your tech.

Firstly, they secretly use up your device’s resources.

This usually means the virus is running dubious programmes in the background without you knowing, so your laptop or phone has to work harder.

Similarly, they can take a hit on your broadband bandwidth.

That’s because they are constantly downloading and uploading files, swallowing up loads of your internet power.

Some viruses even target your router directly so that it malfunctions.

According to MalwareFox, viruses can cause interference with your Wi-Fi connection too.

“This can happen if the virus is emitting a signal that interferes with the WiFi signal,” the site warns.

So how can you stop them?

As always with viruses, the best solution is prevention.

Therefore, you really need to have antivirus software installed on your devices before you catch one.

It’s a lot harder to remove a virus after – though some antivirus apps can help get rid of them.

The Sun has rounded-up some of the best antivirus software to consider.
