VIRGIN Media Ireland said this morning that their broadband was working properly again after reports of connection issues across parts of Ireland and the UK yesterday.
The company tweeted: “The intermittent broadband connection issues reported by some customers is resolved and we do apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
The outage came as people isolating due to Covid-19 are increasingly relying on broadband and internet to continue to work from home and provide entertainment.
The company did say that there were still problems reported in the Malahide area of Co Dublin, caused by electrical problems.
“We’re currently aware of an ESB fault in the Malahide area which is affecting the power supply to our network,” the company tweeted. “At present the estimated repair time is 4pm.”
The telecoms firm appeared to be facing connectivity problems across the United Kingdom as well as Ireland.
The fault appeared to be an hourly one that impacts users.
Tens of thousands of customers reported problems using the website DownDetector starting at about 6 pm yesterday evening.
The number of complaints has eased off overnight and into this morning, however hundreds of people are still reporting some problems with Virgin Media broadband connections today.
Virgin Media, which has 3.2million customers, quickly confirmed that they are looking into the issue.
Virgin broadband users across the country took to twitter to share that their broadband connections have gone down.

Virgin Media said that the issue was not being caused by an increased capacity but a technical fault.
They said: “The issue is causing broadband connectivity to drop for a few minutes before returning again.
“We know that this is not being caused by increased usage or a lack of capacity – it is a network technical fault.”
